How would you explain specifically what you do as a marketer?
What I practically do is determine the right target markets for a client, and recognize the different avenues in its campaign to be measured.
You see that is one of the hardest parts when it comes to marketing, one has to ask the right questions instead of looking for the best answers. And at the same time, determine a better way to measure each campaign.
Marketing is a science, but it is also based on “natural forces beyond the control of one person” (Eugene Schwartz). Therefore central to it is, again asking the right questions.
Sadly a lot of companies look for the best answers but ask the wrong questions perhaps because they are too busy handling the deliverables and they fail to see the bigger picture.
Which new skills are most important for marketers to learn in the next six months?
I have a lot to write about this but central to it is knowing the difference between sales and marketing.
What do you find most rewarding about marketing?
You see I have three modalities when it comes to (online) marketing and marketing as a whole.
- Increase traffic
- Increase rankings
- Increase conversions
Once I am able to generate positive changes in all three I find that most rewarding.
How do you stay updated with the latest marketing industry news?
I go to different websites such as GaryVaynerchuk.com and SmartPassiveIncome.com. Otherwise I go to other sites related to them but just focusing on them both already is enough for me.
As a marketer, what is your favorite productivity hack?
I typically use the Pomodoro Technique. This productivity hack is what I consider to really work for me. It has become a habit and has produced a lot of positive impact in my life and career.
I also decided to wake up early following the footsteps of other successful people.
Another thing is constant exercise. It is true what they say about yoga, it really balances you out. Ever since I started doing yoga my productivity has increased tenfold!
If I don’t do yoga I supplement it with doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai or going to the gym to lift.
Are there any particular marketing trends on the horizon that really excite you?
The skyscraper techniques of Backlinko along with the interviews at Ahrefs are really interesting, although they are focused more on online marketing they are really golden.
What are some of the top tools and apps in your marketing stack?
I can’t emphasize more the importance of data so I use the following: Buzzsumo, Majestic, Ahrefs, SEMrush other than Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools.
How is your typical work day structured?
- Wake up at 7:00 am – 7:30 am
- Work at 8:00 am until noon
- Rest for an hour
- Work until 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
- 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm exercise (MWF), in between days I read a book
- 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm pm family time
- 9:00pm – 10:00 pm read a book/watch a movie
- 10:00 pm – midnight bed read a book ’til I sleep
Which one book would you recommend every marketer should read?
Eugene M. Schwartz’s Breakthrough Advertising Made Easy: Timeless Copywriting Wisdom Shortened, Summarized, and Simplified. This is so far the best.
What advice would you share with other marketers who want to become more productive?
Create a system that will be most advantageous for you. Always measure your time spent on everything as it is the only way you can control your productivity. Eat, exercise and most of all find time to rest. Rest is as important as work, perhaps more important in my experience.
